Shiny welcomes Gary Cutlack of UK Resistance fame
Shiny has a shopping list of talented bloggers that one day we hope will join our team. So I am massively pleased to say that we have managed to tempt one of our top targets, Gary Cutlack of UK Resistance and Idiot Toys, to come on board. I could witter on about how he is a hugely funny writer and new media genius, but instead I’ll let him do the talking.
Over to you Gary.

Fopp RIP
Poor Fopp. I had no idea they were in such trouble. Since taking up an eMusic subscription I can’t help but feel partly to blame… (via shrinkwrapped’s Last.fm Journal)
Fopp Closes
After a week of mysterious closures and speculation, today Fopp have announced that the company has closed down. We wondered quite where they were finding the money to go as crazy on expansion as they did this year, but Fopp Tottenham Court Road had become a great venue for free gigs in the capital and it will be missed.
A spokesperson for the company said:
It is with great regret that we...
Random Graffiti of the Week: YTE
Bit of a dull one this week, but worth highlighting for its sheer prolificness. This startled face can be found all over Hackney, particularly along Cambridge Heath Road. The scrawl occasionally carries the legend ‘YTE’. Has anyone found examples in other parts of town - and any speculation as to what YTE stands for? (via shrinkwrapped’s shared items in Google Reader)

Leaving the BBC
Taking a cue from young Tom, I should probably mention what the hell I’m on about when I drop hints about a new job; I’ve accepted a job at Channel 4 as Commissioning Editor for Education, focusing on 14-19 year olds.
Channel 4’s Education dept has absolutely the right idea: audiences first. You can see the Education department’s mission here: it’s geniunely...

Hitachi invents the "business microscope"
And even after reading the press release three times, we’re still not particularly sure what it’s meant for.
It is, apparently, a device that shows communication structures within companies, so you can see who does any work and who just sits there on Messenger chatting to their mates about Big Brother all day.

I LOVE My Labradoodle by Jennifer
Hi everyone! If there’s anything that I hate about dogs (and there isn’t, because I love everything about dogs) - it’s the fact that they can’t talk. I hate that about dogs so much. I know George isn’t keeping secrets from me - I mean, what secrets could he have? I keep him drugged in the airing cupboard, so it’s not like he has any experiences he’s not sharing with me. It’s just that.. I can’t...
